Were you aware that the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty area of orthodontics that is recognized by the American Dental Association?
Not all orthodontists are automatically board-certified, nor do they have to be to provide orthodontic services. However, all patients who visit Smile Arc Orthodontics can expect to see a board-certified orthodontist for their visit!
Board-certified orthodontists have gone above and beyond what’s typically expected of a studying dentist. The decision to become board-certified is 100% voluntary and shows the commitment of the particular orthodontist who partakes in this rigorous process.
- Completion of a 240-question written examination
- Completion of a clinical examination, including detailed case reports from the practice or residency that the applicant works for. Cases are then evaluated by a team of examiners and later reviewed with the applicant, who is then tested on a variety of topics
In order to maintain their certification status, each orthodontist must go through a certification renewal process every 10 years. Being board-certified demonstrates the utmost dedication and commitment to the orthodontic practice and patient care and education. It also demonstrates to the patient that their orthodontist keeps up with the latest advances in patient care and dental technology.
